More info about Arizona workers compensation

In the state of Arizona, employers are required to have workers compensation insurance, meaning it is a “work comp mandatory” state. Employers must either purchase workers compensation insurance from a private insurance company, or be authorized to self-insure. If not, they will be issued a stop work order.

Arizona formerly used to maintain a very competitive state fund, but the state fund has been transformed into a non-profit mutual insurance company (Copperpoint Mutual Insurance Company), and are no longer part of state government. Copperpoint currently writes about 60% of the work comp insurance in AZ, but has to compete with other private insurance companies in the state.
