More info about Alaska Workers Compensation

Alaska is a “Work comp mandatory” state, meaning that all employers with more than one employee are required to have workers compensation insurance.

Alaska Special Fund Units:

Second Injury Fund: In an effort to help employees with pre-existing injuries and conditions to get a job, Alaska utilizes a second injury fund. The second injury fund provides reimbursements to insures for claims of workers where it can be documented that the workers had a pre-existing condition that contributed to the claim.

Fisherman’s Fund: Alaska has also created a fisherman’s fund to help reduce costs for one of the largest industries in Alaska. The fisherman’s fund is a state program that provides workers compensation for licensed commercial fisherman in the state of Alaska. Coverage extends to any fisherman who become injured or ill due to fishing related activities, onshore or off shore.

Workers Compensation Benefit Guaranty Fund: In an effort to ensure that all workers receive proper care and treatment, Alaska created the Workers Compensation Benefit Guaranty Fund. This fund provides workers compensation benefits to employees that have been injured while working for an uninsured employer.
